R. Shoni Labowitz author of Miraculous Living, has another interpretation. She translates MIRYAM as RISING WATERS. She bases this on the root Mem Resh Aleph which means TO FLY in the ‘hiphil’. According to the The Analytical Hebrew and Chaldee Lexicon the primary idea of this root was probably TO RISE.
