Description
PRAYER AND SINGING
TEFILAH means PRAYER in Hebrew. SHIRA is from the Hebrew, meaning SONG or POETRY.
GEMATRIA - numerical manipulation of the values of the letters to explain the meaning of a word or phrase.
In this case the Gematria of Tefillah and Shira are the same.
Tefilah – TAV-400, PEY-80, LAMED-30, HEY-5 = 515
Shirah – SHIN-300, YUD-10, RESH-200, HEY-5 = 515.
An interpretation using gematria could be that PRAYER equals SINGING. SINGING is PRAYER, or PRAYER is SONG. When one is praying, God hears SINGING. When one is singing, one is also PRAYING.
The Hebrbrew letters featured in this painting are Tav Pey Lamed Hey - Shin Yud Resh Hey. Taken together they spell TEFILAH - SHIRAH.
Each of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet has a special meaning and a story to tell. Here a few brief ones about the letters on this painting.
TAV is the 22nd letter in Hebrew alphabet – the last letter. TAV has a numerical value of 400 and means MARK, SIGN. TAV makes a sound like the T Tall. The TAV is composed of a DALET and a NUN.
PEY is the 17th letter of the Hebrew alphabet and has a numerical value of 80. PEY makes a sound either like the P in Peace or the F in Food. PEY means MOUTH and is constructed of a CAF and a YUD.
LAMED is the 12th letter of the Hebrew alphabet and has a numerical value of 30. LAMED makes a sound like the L in Like. LAMED means both TO LEARN and TO TEACH. The LAMED is the tallest and most majestic of all the letters.
HEY is the 5th letter of the Hebrew alphabet and has a numerical value of 5. HEY means BEHOLD. The HEY is constructed of a DALET and a YUD. HEY makes a sound like the H in Happy.
SHIN is the 21st letter of the Hebrew alphabet and has a numerical value of 300. SHIN means TOOTH, YEAR, REPEAT, TEACH. SHIN makes the sound SHHHHHH when the DOT is on the right, and SSSS when the DOT is on he left.
YUD is the 10th letter of the Hebrew alphabet and has a numerical value of 10. YUD makes a sound like the Y in Year. YUD is a simple point. It is the smallest letter in the alphabet and yet is frequently associated with the very large concept of EMANATION, the highest level in the Four World paradigm of Kabbalah.
RESH is the 20th letter of the Hebrew alphabet and has a numerical value of 200. RESH makes a sound like the R in Radiant. RESH means BEGINNING or HEAD.
