JARED is the Anglicized version of the Hebrew YARED meaning TO DESCEND (Kolatch, Alfred J. 1984. The Complete Dictionary of English and Hebrew First Names Middle Village: Jonathan David. 122, 246).
Hebrew Bible name - Jared was the father of Enoch and the grandfather of Methuselah (Genesis 5:20).
Talmud - In Megillah 13a, the Talmud states: Jered: this is Moses. Why was he called Jered? Because manna came down [yarad] for Israel in his days; Gedor: [he was so called] because he fenced in [gadar] the breaches of Israel; Heber, because he joined [hiber] Israel to their Father in heaven; Socho, because he was like a sheltering booth [sukkah] for Israel; Jekuthiel, because Israel trusted in God [kiwu le'el] in his days; Zanoah, because he made Israel abandon [hizniah] their inquities.
