YOPHIEL is composed of three Hebrew elements: meaning BEAUTIFUL, HANDSOME, WORTHY (Sidi, Smadar Shir. 1989. ‘The Complete Book of Hebrew Baby Names’ San Francisco: Harper. 96); and EL, meaning GOD (Alcalay, R. The Complete Hebrew English Dictionary. Jerusalem: Massada. 90);
EL is the oldest Semitic term for God, but the etymology is obscure (Klein, Ernest. 1990. Comprehensive Etymological Dictionary of the Hebrew Language Jerusalem: University of Haifa. 28).
The Yud after the Pey is to indicate first person possession.
